Our Story
Better Futures Shoalhaven was established in response to the growing challenge of housing affordability across the region. Home prices were rising, supply was limited, and many of the people who keep the Shoalhaven running, including essential workers, families, and long-term residents, were finding it harder to secure stable, affordable homes close to work and community.
We saw the need for a more balanced approach — one that combines the practical discipline of development with the purpose of community benefit. Our focus is to plan and deliver housing initiatives that create genuine affordability, protect community connection, and invest in the long-term wellbeing of the Shoalhaven.
We believe housing should serve the people who live in it. Every initiative we develop is guided by local need, and every outcome generated is reinvested to support the next, keeping value and opportunity where they belong, within the community.

As a registered charity and Public Benevolent Institution, Better Futures Shoalhaven is formally recognised for its commitment to public benefit. This status strengthens how we operate and ensures that everything we achieve is directed back into the community, supporting housing and local initiatives that create lasting impact.
our role in housing
Our role is to bring together the people, planning and partnerships needed to create more affordable and attainable homes for the Shoalhaven. This includes coordinating the development pathway from land activation through to project delivery in collaboration with landowners, builders, financiers, community housing providers and other local partners.
expanding our impact
Through this model, we aim to help create mixed tenure communities that include shared equity home ownership, affordable rental housing delivered with specialist partners and carefully balanced market sales. By capturing and reinvesting the value created through development, we support long term affordability and strengthen the communities we serve.
